Coronavirus was discovered in the 60s. There are about 39 different species, and only 5 to 6 can infect humans, causing diseases that range from the common cold to severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).

Typical symptoms are fever, cough, and breathing difficulties. In severe cases, patients with Coronavirus may develop pneumonia and develop gastrointestinal symptoms, particularly diarrhea.

At MECS, we are taking measures to reinforce hygiene in classrooms and bathrooms, by cleaning the door handles several times a day, as well as the tap in the bathrooms, among other actions related to the possible sources of infection. We suggest that parents send children with hands sanitizer and pocket kleenex to school so that they can sanitize their hands and use these tissues when sneezing. Likewise, we will be sharing hygiene measures with our students during devotionals, in classrooms, and in informative posters to create awareness of how to better protect themselves from a viral infection.

The key to reducing the spread of this and other types of viruses is to maintain proper hygiene. In general, we share these recommendations that can be followed to prevent infection:

  1. Wash your hands regularly, cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze.

  2. Open the doors with your elbows or forearms or use towels or napkins to touch door handles.

  3. Avoid direct contact with people with respiratory conditions or viral processes.

  4. Do not send students to school who have respiratory viral processes.

  5. Stay at least three feet away from people affected with infectious processes.

  6. If you are suffering from influenza avoid physical contact with others (for example: shake hands, with kisses, or hug)

  7. Eat well-done meat, avoid eating medium-rare or medium-well cooked meat.
