En los últimos días hemos escuchado muchas opiniones en los diferentes medios de comunicación acerca de la música y el impacto que esta tiene en la sociedad. Estas opiniones han surgido desde diferentes sectores, denotando una real preocupación por los valores que se le están siendo transmitidos a nuestros hijos a través de la música.

En una entrevista realizada al reconocido psiquiatra dominicano César Mella, él afirmó que “todo lo que ingrese por nuestros sentidos como percepción acústica influye sobre nuestro comportamiento”. Como hijos de Dios y padres de familia debemos estar conscientes de este impacto y analizar el tipo de música que escuchamos, tanto nosotros como nuestros hijos, meditando en las siguientes preguntas:

  • ¿Cuál es el mensaje que la letra de esta canción promueve? ¿Va acorde con lo que creo y pienso acerca del tema que trata?
  • ¿En qué me edifica esta canción? 
  • ¿Las letras de estas canciones promueven los principios bíblicos?

 

El Señor nos llama en Su Palabra a hacer todo para Su gloria y eso incluye los medios que escogemos para entretenernos. Igualmente, en Filipenses 4:8 se nos exhorta en lo que debe de llenar nuestras mentes: “Por lo demás, hermanos, todo lo que es verdadero, todo lo digno, todo lo justo, todo lo puro, todo lo amable, todo lo honorable, si hay alguna virtud o algo que merece elogio, en esto meditad”. Debemos procurar que lo que hagamos en nuestro tiempo de ocio pueda ser algo que glorifique al Señor y que permita que mi mente y corazón puedan llenarse de cosas honorables y gratas. Esto impactará nuestros pensamientos, lo que nos decimos a nosotros mismos, lo que valoramos y conversamos con los demás, ya que de la abundancia de nuestro corazón habla nuestra boca. 

Padres y madres, seamos sabios y guardianes de nuestros hijos e instruyamos siempre en la verdad.

Music and our children

 

In recent days we have heard many opinions in the different media about music and the impact it has on society. These opinions have risen from different sectors, showing a real concern for the values ​​that are being transmitted to our children through music.

In an interview with renowned Dominican psychiatrist César Mella, he stated that “everything that enters through our senses as acoustic perception influences our behavior.” As children of God and parents, we must be aware of this impact and analyze the type of music we and our children listen to, meditating on the following questions:

  • What is the message that the lyrics of this song promote? Is it consistent with what I believe and think about the subject it deals with?
  • How does this song edify me?
  • Do the lyrics of these songs promote biblical principles?

 

The Lord calls us in His Word to do everything for His glory, and that includes the means we choose to entertain ourselves. Similarly, Philippians 4:8 exhorts us on what should fill our minds: “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” We must ensure that what we do in our leisure time can be something that glorifies the Lord and that allows my mind and heart to be filled with honorable and pleasant things. This will impact our thoughts, what we say to ourselves, what we value and talk to others, since from the abundance of our heart our mouth speaks.

Parents, let us be wise and guardians of our children and always instruct in the truth.
